The Furry 5K raises money for the Help the Animals Fund (HTAF), which provides veterinary care and supplies for sick, injured or abused orphaned shelter animals.

The Seattle Animal Shelter takes in nearly 8,000 animals annually. Of those, many receive the lifesaving care they need thanks to the generous donations of individuals and companies.

The HTAF is an integral part of saving lives – with annual veterinary expenses of approximately $100,000, every dollar raised counts!

When I was around 12 years old, I started volunteering at the local animal shelter, about a mile from where I lived in rural Hawai'i. I spent my Saturdays and Sundays at the shelter all summer long and into the following years. I learned some potent lessons for a young girl during my time there; lessons about life, death, cruelty, kindness, hope, and the true meaning of humane. I am so grateful for that experience and for the work that animal shelters do on behalf of homeless, hurt and wayward critters. I am honored to participate in the Furry 5K to support Seattle Animal Shelter Foundation's Help The Animals Fund. On behalf of the critters, thank you for supporting us!
