The Furry 5K raises money for the Help the Animals Fund (HTAF), which provides veterinary care and supplies for sick, injured or abused orphaned shelter animals.

The Seattle Animal Shelter takes in nearly 6,000 animals annually. Of those, many receive the lifesaving care they need thanks to the generous donations of individuals and companies.

The HTAF is an integral part of saving lives – with annual veterinary expenses of approximately $100,000, every dollar raised counts!

Lyla Durham's Story

On June 9th, I will be running the Furry 5K. Running as much of it as I can, anyway.

For me, this is a pretty big deal. What with a bum ticker, bum lungs, and bum joints head to toe... I never in a million years thought I'd start jogging. I did, though, and I've lost 50 pounds and found that even though I'll never be speedy, I am capable of things I never realized.

One of the reasons I chose this particular race to be my first is that it benefits the fund that helps get supplies and medical care for the animals who find themselves in the shelter's care. The animal hospital I work at sees a lot of the pets that need medical attention and I can tell you right now that it changes lives for some of the animals when the shelter can say "yes" to treatment.

Help me celebrate my achievements by donating to the Help the Animals Fund. Lots of four legged (and some 3 legged) critters thank you.
