Topanga and Krystal Look's Story
Please join me in the fundraising effort for this organization
Our family adopted Topanga in 2001 when she was 3 years old from the shelter,
I first saw her from the webcam from the Seattle Animal Shelter website - She was mix Chow and Black lab, she looked so sad and just needed a family to come home to. I didn't plan on adopting another dog since
we already had Krystal Light our American Eskimo. But at the time, my mom had asked me to search for a dog for my Uncle who was the only one in our family who didn't have a dog. His criteria was, it had to black, trained and puppy. So I eventually skipped through this adult black dog (Topanga), because she wasn't a puppy. But for some reason the page always broght me back to her. When I couldn't find a puppy, I determined to find what my Uncle was looking for so I personally went to the shelter and ran into Topanga's kennel.
When I saw her, I was immediately touched by her presence, her personality, so calm and well behaved. I read her story and found out her previous owners boyfriend, didn't like dogs, he preferred cats and she was not "cat friendly". I told her, if she was here the following day , I will adopt her. I kept looking for the puppy. Eventually no puppy was available and finally made the decision to go back to adopt Topanga. Sure enough when we returned to the shelter, she was gone, I was so heart broken, I couldn't leave without finding out what happened to her, luckily for me, she was just moved to a different kennel on the other side of the building. When she saw me, she jumped up wagging her tail just begging to bring her home. BTW she didn't end up with my Uncle, she didn't like it at his house, apparently she made a big mess...... She became part of our family, only this time she ended up as my mom's dog who didn't expect to fall in love with her. I always introduced her as my sister from another mother.
Topanga Fiona left us after 11 wonderful years, March 31, 2013 and she is truly missed by all. We are doing this walk in her honor and great momories she left us. Topanga knew exactly who she wanted, a family she wanted to belong to and we were lucky she chose us.
