The Furry 5K raises money for the Help the Animals Fund (HTAF), which provides veterinary care and supplies for sick, injured or abused orphaned shelter animals.

The Seattle Animal Shelter takes in nearly 6,000 animals annually. Of those, many receive the lifesaving care they need thanks to the generous donations of individuals and companies.

The HTAF is an integral part of saving lives – with annual veterinary expenses of approximately $100,000, every dollar raised counts!

Please join me in the fundraising effort for the Seattle Animal Shelter!

I'm walking because I am finally at a fitness level where I am capable of walking 5k, and I'm really excited about it! A big part of how I got to this point was the loving, enthusiastic companionship of my sweet dog, Calvin, who was a rescue dog I adopted a bit over a year ago. I would love to support the work of the Seattle Animal Shelter by raising money to help them pay the vet bills for all of the sweet animals they take in.

A year ago, it was difficult for me to walk a block; I had plantar fasciitis, asthma, and was pretty sedentary due mostly to working a computer job and having a lot of quiet, solitary hobbies. Then about a year ago, I was diagnosed with cancer. Since recovering, I have been more interested in and able to participate in more physical activities that make me feel good in my body. I'm biking, swimming, and going on long walks with my dates and my dog!

I'm celebrating this new chapter in my health by starting to walk in some 5ks, and I'm especially chuffed to be walking in this one that supports the Seattle Animal Shelter because my little buddy Calvin has been such a big part of my motivation to get out and WALK! If you're able to help us reach our fundraising goal, that would be amazing! Calvin and I super appreciate your support. Woof woof! :)
